To share my process, I thought it would take several posts, but I will show each layer in a linked post in case you want to see the changes. I also don’t actually know how to not edit my own work. If you don’t write you might be surprised to know that authors are always polishing our work. It’s never perfect and its hard for us to let go some times and say good enough.
I started the first layer on Saturday by just looking over the notes I made while writing.

Sunday I started moving the scenes around into the order that felt better and fixed some glaring typos. The writing prompt and my cards gave me ideas of rejuvenation and recovery. and I wanted to take those themes and refine them for more focus.
Here we have CONNECTION, REUNION, OPPORTUNITY , and TRUST. thats a beautify love story huh?

I deleted some dialogue that I didn’t want. That brought me to 1700 words. There is still a whole conversation I can get rid of plus condensing the world building. I stopped here because I got a phone call from the doctor about the imaging I had done on Friday. A diagnosis that explains the symptoms I have and texting my mom to verify my memories of her medical history left me very raw and in tears.
I share this so those of you who don’t write can see how normal day-to-day events can affect our writing process. Even something as little as a thunderstorm ruining my plans to grill can throw me off some. There was a tornado in our area. Yay, we still have power. My in-laws don’t have power, and my father-in-law is on oxygen. We had to track down a generator. Then I stayed over at my neighbor’s chatting (in masks) since we haven’t really talked in a while. She had a generator from a tornado 13 years ago. Obviously my procasti-game is on point today.
My desk and tarot table are a mess, and I haven’t figured out what to change yet in the story. Still just staring at the doc and the pile of new planners on my desk. What am I even doing? New planners in August during a pandemic?

Today’s grocery trip hatched some new ideas. I missed #creaturechat because my husband wanted to watch Corporate. I’m not saying I can’t watch tv and write at the same time, but this is not optimal.  But I sat down and rewrote the beginning of the story with (hopefully) richer and deeper worldbuilding. I came up with Daimyn and Cambria’s equine forms.Cambria looks like a gold shire horse with a 2 foot gold and pearl colored horn.
Daimyn is more bronze with black mane and tail. He is bigger and has a 2.25 foot black and bronze horn.

I filled in some of the missing details and and ran a grammar check. I read fluent typo. My brain doesn’t even see mistakes any more. It’s not perfect, but it helps a lot and I’m learning to how to avoid those mistakes in the first place.

I really want to write the next scene! I wasn’t planning on this being a romance, but who am I kidding? I like people being in love.

The fully self edited draft is here.
